    The Effectiveness Of Ultrasonic Cleaning:

To quantitate blood contamination present on dental instruments used for routine prophylaxis and to assess the effectiveness of ultrasonic decontamination in reducing blood and virus contamination on dental instruments. Human blood contamination present on dental instruments obtained after routine prophylaxis was analyzed using IgG as a blood marker. The estimated contaminating blood volume was found to normally range between 1.4 x 10(-6) to 2.0 x 10(-4) ml. Attempts to saturate the instruments with blood contamination suggested that the maximum possible retained blood volume was about 10-fold higher than the normal levels of contamination. Hand scrubbing of contaminated instruments was both relatively ineffective and inconsistent in removing blood contamination. Decontamination in an ultrasonic cleaner was more effective than hand washing, resulting in greater than a 100-fold reduction of blood contamination. Using a mouse model virus (lactate dehydrogenase-elevating virus, LDV), high levels of virus contamination of dental instruments and dental handpieces were achieved, as determined by assay of residual virus. Ultrasonic treatment reduced the level of virus contamination present on dental instruments by one million-fold, and virus contamination present in dental handpieces was reduced by one thousand-fold. These results provide quantitative estimations of the infection threat and its reduction by ultrasonication, posed by human-exposed dental instruments.

    Customer's Feedback:

How To Check Power Of Ultrasonic Cleaner?

To test the proper functioning of your dental ultrasonic cleaner using the foil test, follow the steps outlined below:

    1. Prepare your dental ultrasonic cleaner for the foil test: fill it to the “max” line mark, add a small amount of detergent to soften the water. Set the heater thermostat to 140 degrees F. or heat water in a kettle if your dental ultrasonic cleaner doesn’t have a heater.

    2. Run your dental ultrasonic cleaner on a cleaning cycle for ten minutes, since this combined with the heated water will expel the air in the solution to allow your dental ultrasonic cleaner to function optimally.

    3. Using a piece of aluminumfoil large enough to be immersed diagonally into your dental ultrasonic cleaner, run a cleaning cycle for an additional ten minutes while holding the foil close to the bottom of the dental ultrasonic cleaner.

    4. When the cycle is complete, remove the foil and inspect it for evidence of indentations or shreds in the foil, depending on the wattage of your dental ultrasonic cleaner. If you do not observe any such indentations, you can positively say that you need to replace or repair your dental ultrasonic cleaner.
